[10-22-2026] San Francisco County, CA – Pedestrian Killed In Hit-and-Run Crash on I-280.webpA man was killed after being struck by a Toyota Prius whose driver fled on foot in San Francisco early Thursday morning, October 22, 2026.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer Mark Andrews, officers received a report at around 2:25 a.m. of a pedestrian in the center median of northbound Interstate 280, just south of the Geneva Avenue off-ramp.

Officers arrived to find the man and an unoccupied Prius. CHP officers attempted lifesaving measures, but San Francisco firefighters pronounced him dead at 2:37 a.m. The pedestrian’s identity had not been released as of Thursday afternoon.

Investigators determined that the Prius driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Andrews said authorities had information about the driver’s possible identity, but CHP and San Francisco police had not located that person.

It remained unclear why the pedestrian was in the freeway median. No witnesses at the scene could explain the circumstances, Andrews said.

CHP is investigating the collision as a felony hit-and-run.
