A 71-year-old Vallejo man was killed after being struck by a Tesla in Solano County, early Thursday morning, October 22, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol’s Solano County Area office, the crash was reported at around 2:34 a.m. on the westbound Interstate 80 near the Interstate 780 interchange.
The Solano County Coroner’s Office identified the pedestrian as Domingo G. of Vallejo.
A preliminary review of dash camera footage indicated that the Tesla was traveling at approximately 70 mph in the No. 2 lane when the pedestrian entered from the right shoulder and crossed toward the center divider, CHP said.
The footage showed the Tesla braking and steering left before its right front portion struck him, according to investigators.
The driver, a 26-year-old San Francisco man, told officers the Tesla was operating in Full Self-Driving mode. He remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
CHP believes at least one additional vehicle struck the victim while he was lying in the traffic lanes. No other vehicles stopped, and investigators had not identified any additional vehicles involved.
The incident remains under investigation.
