[08-22-2026] Los Angeles County, CA – Woman Killed, Man Injured in Suspected DUI Hit-and-Run Crash in Long Beach

A woman was killed, and a man was injured in a multi-vehicle crash involving a suspected DUI driver in North Long Beach on Saturday afternoon, August 22, 2026.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, the collision occurred around 2:40 p.m. in the 6900 block of Atlantic Avenue.

Police said a 2019 Volvo was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when it collided with a 2004 Chevrolet that was turning from Atlantic Avenue onto Atlantic Place. The Volvo then struck two occupied vehicles that were stopped at the intersection, while the Chevrolet overturned.

A woman inside the Chevrolet was pronounced dead at the scene. The Chevrolet’s male driver was transported to a hospital. His condition was not immediately available.

Two women and two children occupying the other vehicles were not injured.

Police said the Volvo driver initially fled the scene but returned a short time later. Authorities identified him as 38-year-old Compton resident Adalberto P. and arrested him on suspicion of hit-and-run resulting in death or injury, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and DUI causing bodily injury.

Investigators said speed and impaired driving appeared to be contributing factors in the collision.

The Long Beach Police Department continues to investigate the fatal crash.
