One person was killed, and another suffered significant injuries in a multi-vehicle crash and vehicle fire in Rio Linda, Sacramento County, on Friday afternoon, August 21, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision was reported around 2:01 p.m. in the 2100 block of Elkhorn Boulevard near 20th Street.
CHP dispatch logs indicated that as many as five vehicles were involved. Initial reports stated that a person was trapped inside a vehicle before one of the vehicles caught fire shortly after the collision.
One motorist was killed in the crash. Authorities have not released the person’s identity pending notification of next of kin.
Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District officials said another person sustained significant injuries and was transported to a hospital. The patient’s condition was not immediately available.
The CHP continues to investigate the fatal collision.
