A multi-vehicle crash involving an SUV, a BMW, and a semi-truck caused major traffic disruptions on southbound Interstate 15 in Escondido on Friday morning, June 26, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported just before 3 a.m. at the State Route 78 interchange.
Officials stated that a Ford Bronco overturned, with one occupant initially trapped but later able to exit the vehicle along with others involved.
Debris was scattered across the roadway, and a semi-truck reportedly shifted lanes following the collision. An estimated 20-gallon oil spill spread across portions of the freeway, requiring Caltrans cleanup crews.
Several lanes and a transition ramp were temporarily closed while emergency crews worked at the scene. All lanes reopened by approximately 7:30 a.m.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
