[05-21-2026] Los Angeles County, CA – Woman Arrested After Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-5 Near Pyramid Lake.webpA woman was taken into custody following a multi-vehicle crash and freeway standoff near Pyramid Lake in Los Angeles County on Thursday afternoon, May 21, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident began around 2 p.m. on the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway near Smokey Bear Road.

Authorities stated that witnesses reported a driver operating an SUV erratically before veering off the roadway, re-entering traffic, sideswiping a big rig, and colliding with another vehicle. Following the crash, the woman reportedly refused to exit the SUV and covered the windows to block officers from seeing inside.

CHP officers later removed the woman from the vehicle and took her into custody at around 2:50 p.m. During the incident, one officer suffered a head laceration.

Officials said the standoff contributed to a full closure of the southbound freeway, causing significant traffic delays. Two lanes were later reopened after the suspect was detained.

It remains unclear how many people may have been injured in the collision, though at least four ambulances were dispatched to the scene.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
