A 59-year-old woman was killed, and a 6-year-old boy was injured after they were struck by a vehicle while in a crosswalk in Hayward on Saturday evening, February 14, 2026.
According to the Hayward Police Department, the incident occurred around 6:20 p.m. at the crosswalk near the intersection of West Tennyson Road and Baldwin Street. Officers responded to the scene and located the driver, identified as a 60-year-old Hayward resident.
Police stated that the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators by providing a statement. Authorities reported that drugs and alcohol were not considered factors in the crash.
Both victims were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The woman later succumbed to her injuries. The child sustained facial fractures and was later reunited with family members.
The woman’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin and formal identification by the Alameda County Coroner’s Office.
The investigation remains ongoing.
