A student riding a bicycle was struck by a vehicle in a crosswalk near Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School in Berkeley on Monday afternoon, August 18, 2025.
According to authorities, the crash occurred around 3:00 p.m. at the intersection of Hopkins Street and Colusa Avenue, on the north side of campus.
Officials reported that the child sustained a possible arm injury and was medically assessed before leaving the area with his parents. The vehicle involved was moving at a slow speed at the time of the collision.
Witnesses said the driver had stopped at a stop sign but was unable to see the student due to another vehicle illegally parked in a red zone near the crosswalk. The school’s principal, Michael Tison Yee, notified parents of the incident, reminding the community that parking in red zones reduces visibility and increases risk for pedestrians and cyclists.
Authorities confirmed that police and parking enforcement officers will be increasing their presence around schools during arrival and dismissal times to encourage safe driving and compliance with traffic laws.
The incident remains under investigation.

What A Lawyer Can Do For You
Many victims put off calling a lawyer even if they sustain injuries after an accident. However, lawyers can help you in many ways. They can provide you with police reports, CCTV footage, and witness statements to strengthen your case. Your attorney will also negotiate with insurance companies to get you fair compensation. The best part is that they will do all of these things for you at no upfront cost. So if you’re injured in an accident, hire a personal injury attorney to recover medical bills, car repair costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
