A big rig driver was critically injured in a crash on the southbound 5 Freeway near the 118 Freeway interchange in San Fernando on Wednesday morning, November 6, 2024.
At approximately 6:45 a.m., emergency crews responded to the scene where a semi-truck had collided with another vehicle.
The big rig was reported to have a severely mangled front end. The other vehicle involved was seen on the shoulder of the freeway, though the extent of its damage was not immediately clear.
First responders had to extricate the truck driver from the wreckage. The driver was then rushed to a hospital in critical condition.
The crash caused major congestion in the area, with drivers warned to expect delays throughout the Newhall Pass and northern San Fernando Valley.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
