A driver fled the scene after fatally striking a 65-year-old pedestrian in Phelan, San Bernardino County, on Monday evening, September 16, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision was first reported at about 7:45 p.m. on Phelan and Buttemere roads.

Cynthia M., 65, of Phelan, died at the scene, according to the San Bernardino County coroner’s records. The involved vehicle was possibly last seen heading east out of the area. No description was available, but officials noted that the vehicle likely had front-end damage.

CHP logs indicated that a possible suspect was detained after being spotted making repairs to the front end of a pickup truck about an hour later in a residential neighborhood less than five miles from the crash scene.
