A woman was airlifted after a vehicle vs. semi-truck collision near Apple Valley on Tuesday morning, August 6, 2024.
According to the Apple Valley Fire Protection District, the incident took place around 9:15 a.m. along State Route 18, about one mile east of Milpas Drive.
The crash involved a white Toyota Camry and a Double Eagle tractor-trailer. Initial reports suggested that the woman was traveling eastbound in the sedan, while the semi-truck was heading westbound.
For reasons still under investigation, the sedan crossed into the westbound lanes and directly in front of the semi. The semi-truck driver took evasive action, veering onto the left dirt shoulder to avoid a near head-on collision, but the two vehicles still came into contact.
Firefighters responded to the scene and requested a medical helicopter to airlift the female driver of the sedan to a trauma center. Initially, she was transported by ambulance to St. Mary’s Medical Center and was later flown to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for further treatment. It is unclear if the semi-truck driver was injured as well.
No further details were released, and authorities are gathering all the necessary information to determine the factors leading to the incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
