A male pedestrian was struck by a sedan while crossing the road, and another driver was seriously injured attempting to avoid the victim in Rio Linda, Sacramento County, Thursday night, September 14.
Officials from the California Highway Patrol North Sacramento division and Metro Fire of Sacramento responded to reports of the collision around 9:30 p.m. along block 500 of Elkhorn Boulevard close to Rio Linda Boulevard.
Under initial investigation, the CHP believes the suspected vehicle that immediately fled the scene was a silver Pontiac sedan.
Moments later, around 9:45 p.m., a different vehicle crashed close to a property after avoiding the deceased victim on the roadway.
The driver was stated to have suffered from major injuries, but the juvenile passenger in the car was reported to be uninjured. The driver was immediately taken to the hospital in critical condition.
No information was released on the cause of the first collision. It is currently unknown if the pedestrian was at a crosswalk at the time of the collision or if drugs or alcohol were involved in either crash.
The authorities have not released the identity of the deceased victim. Further investigation for both incidents is currently ongoing.
