[09-11-2023] Butte County, CA – Two Individuals Sustains Injuries After a Pick-up Truck Struck a Tree in Chico

Two individuals were injured and hospitalized after a vehicle struck a tree in Chico on Monday morning, September 11, 2023.

The California Highway Patrol said the incident occurred around 7:10 a.m. near the intersection of W. Sacramento and Glenwood Avenue.

According to CAL FIRE officials, the vehicle carried two occupants, one of whom suffered moderate injuries, and the other reported mild injuries. They were taken to Enloe Hospital.

The truck driver claimed that the collision resulted from a mechanical failure. Authorities also confirmed that the driver was not under the influence of any substances while operating the vehicle.

Additionally, CHP stated that the truck will be towed and held in storage until both injured individuals are discharged from the hospital.

No further details have been released, and the investigation into the collision continues.

Newly released data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicates that there were 42,795 deaths from vehicle accidents in 2022. This showcases a slight reduction of 0.3% compared to the 42,939 reported fatalities in 2021.

The fatality rate, which measured 1.37 deaths for every 100 million vehicle miles in 2021, decreased to 1.35 deaths per 100 million vehicle miles in 2022. Importantly, it’s worth highlighting that approximately 1% more Americans engaged in driving activities during 2022, as opposed to the peak of the pandemic year.

Furthermore, there is anticipation that the number of fatalities in the final quarter of 2022 will decline. This marks the third consecutive quarterly reduction in deaths, following a trend that commenced after seven successive quarterly increases commencing in the third quarter of 2020.

Regarding specific states, California reported an estimated 4,407 fatalities in 2022, signifying an increase of 2.8% compared to the previous year’s count of 4,285.
