A 30-year-old Hispanic pedestrian man was killed after being struck by a vehicle in Salinas on Monday evening, September 4, 2023.
According to the Salinas Police Department, the incident occurred on East Alisal Street near the Foods Co parking lot around 8:28 p.m.
SPD officers reported that the pedestrian was crossing the street while a 23-year-old man was driving west of the same street and decided to switch lanes. Police said the driver could not see the pedestrian and struck him.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
Drugs or alcohol were not believed to be a factor in this accident. An investigation is underway to determine the events that led to the crash.
