[03-18-2024] Motorcyclist Killed, Passenger Hospitalized After Motorcycle Vs. Vehicle Crash Near West PointA motorcyclist was killed while his passenger was hospitalized after a motorcycle vs. vehicle crash near West Point, Calaveras County, on Monday afternoon, March 18, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal incident occurred at around 3:00 p.m. on Highway 26 at Rabbits Foot Road between Glencoe and Wilseyville.

Officers said that the motorcyclist, a 32-year-old man from West Point, was heading west with a 32-year-old female passenger from Antelope when the accident happened. For some reason, he lost control of his bike, a 1982 Yamaha, and veered into the path of an eastbound 1992 Ford, crashing into it.

The force of the collision threw both the driver and the passenger off their motorcycle, and the vehicle then struck them in the process. The male motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and was taken to Angels Memorial Chapel, while the female passenger was rushed to Modesto Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the Ford driver, a 72-year-old man from Mokelumne Hill, was reportedly uninjured. 

Further details were not immediately provided. Investigations are ongoing.
