[11-01-2026] Kern County, CA – Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck By Vehicle in Southwest Bakersfield

A man was killed after being hit by a car while walking in a marked crosswalk in southwest Bakersfield on Sunday evening, November 1, 2026.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, officers responded to California Avenue and Business Center Drive at around 6:32 p.m.

Police said the man was walking westbound in the marked crosswalk when a Toyota Prius traveling southbound on California Avenue struck him.

Bakersfield Fire Department personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The driver remained at the scene and was contacted by officers. Investigators have not yet determined whether impairment played a role in the crash.

The investigation remains ongoing.
