[10-25-2026] Kern County, CA – Pedestrian Killed in Suspected DUI Hit-and-Run Crash in Bakersfield.webpA man was killed in a suspected DUI hit-and-run crash in Bakersfield on Sunday afternoon, October 25, 2026.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, officers responded at around 12:06 p.m. to Olympia Drive and Gallup Drive.

Officers found a severely injured man in the roadway and a vehicle with sideswipe damage parked on the south shoulder.

A preliminary investigation indicated the pedestrian was entering or exiting the parked vehicle when an eastbound vehicle veered from its lane and struck both.

The pedestrian was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Police later located the suspect vehicle, a black Dodge Challenger, abandoned in a nearby neighborhood.

Officers contacted Calvin D., 39, of Bakersfield, at his home and took him into custody without incident. Police said he was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

Investigators believe driver impairment contributed to the incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
