[10-04-2026] Madera County, CA – One Killed, Two Injured in Suspected DUI Crash on Rd. 28 1/2 and Ave. 15

A 25-year-old man was killed, and two others suffered minor injuries in a suspected DUI collision in Madera County on Sunday evening, October 4, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded shortly after 6:00 p.m. to the intersection of Road 28 1/2 and Avenue 15.

A preliminary investigation found that a 32-year-old man was driving a 2008 Mercedes-Benz northbound on Road 28 1/2, approaching Avenue 15. At the same time, a 25-year-old man was driving a 2013 Nissan Altima westbound on Avenue 15.

CHP said the Mercedes-Benz driver failed to stop at a posted stop sign and entered the intersection, colliding with the Nissan. The impact caused the Mercedes-Benz to overturn and strike a brick wall at the northwest corner of the intersection.

The Nissan driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from his vehicle. Despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 17-year-old passenger in the Nissan was transported to Valley Children’s Hospital with minor injuries. The Mercedes-Benz driver also sustained minor injuries.

CHP said alcohol was believed to be a factor in the collision. The Mercedes-Benz driver was arrested at the scene and booked into the Madera County Jail on multiple unspecified charges.

CHP continues to investigate the fatal crash.
