Two people suffered moderate injuries after an SUV crashed into a fire hydrant and utility pole in Solvang, Santa Barbara County, on Wednesday evening, September 30, 2026.
According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, emergency personnel responded at around 5:45 p.m. near the intersection of Viborg and Alamo Pintado roads.
Authorities said the SUV struck a fire hydrant before hitting a utility pole, which compromised nearby power lines. The impact sent the fire hydrant into a nearby building.
One patient was transported by ground ambulance to Santa Ynez Airport, then flown to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. A second patient was taken to a hospital by ground ambulance. Both sustained moderate injuries.
Employees were in the nearby building when it was damaged, but no injuries were reported.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the crash.
