[09-17-2026] Los Angeles County, CA – Passenger Killed in Freeway Crash in Boyle Heights

A passenger was killed, and a driver was detained on suspicion of DUI after a vehicle crashed off a freeway transition road in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles County, on Thursday morning, September 17, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported at around 2:15 a.m. on the northbound 5 Freeway transition road to the eastbound 10 Freeway.

The vehicle went off the freeway and came to rest beneath an overpass. A passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities did not release the victim’s identity.

The driver survived the crash and was later detained on suspicion of driving under the influence. The driver’s identity was not immediately released.

The investigation remains ongoing.
