A pedestrian was killed after being struck by an SUV while attempting to cross Highway 99 in Fresno on Friday morning, September 11, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers received calls at around 5:50 a.m. about a pedestrian lying in the southbound lanes of Highway 99, south of Ventura Street.
CHP spokesperson Mike Salas said the pedestrian was attempting to cross the southbound lanes and had reached the No. 1 lane when a southbound 2017 Chevrolet SUV struck him.
The SUV driver pulled onto the right shoulder following the incident and called 911. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Salas said authorities did not know whether the pedestrian was impaired at the time of the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing.
