[08-31-2026] San Bernardino County, CA – Road Worker Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash in Big Bear City.webp43-year-old road worker was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Big Bear City, San Bernardino County, on Monday morning, August 31, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded shortly after 7:00 a.m. to Highway 38 near Greenway Drive.

CHP said a pickup truck reportedly drove through traffic cones and entered a work zone, where it struck pedestrian Edgar C., 43. The driver allegedly left the scene following the incident.

Emergency personnel treated the victim for major injuries before he was transported to a hospital, where he later died.

CHP located and arrested the suspected driver, identified as a 90-year-old man, at around 2:45 p.m. Authorities said drugs and alcohol were not suspected to have been factors in the crash.

The investigation remains ongoing.
