One passenger was killed, and three other people were injured in a crash in Monterey on Sunday evening, August 16, 2026.
According to the Monterey Police Department, officers and medical personnel responded around 5:14 p.m. to Barnett Segal and Iris Canyon Road, where they found a 2009 silver BMW coupe convertible that had left the roadway and struck a tree.
The vehicle was occupied by a driver and three passengers. All four occupants were transported to Natividad Medical Center for treatment. One passenger later died, while the driver and two other passengers sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Authorities have not released the deceased passenger’s identity pending notification of next of kin.
Police identified the driver as 20-year-old Sebastian F. of Dublin. Investigators said the driver showed signs of impairment, and a preliminary alcohol screening test indicated a blood alcohol concentration above 0.13%. He remained hospitalized for medical treatment.
Investigators believe the BMW had traveled from the Carmel area to Monterey and was involved in reckless driving incidents before the collision. Police said they intend to pursue a gross vehicular manslaughter charge against the driver upon completion of the investigation.
The Monterey Police Department continues to investigate the fatal crash.
