According to the California Highway Patrol, the drivers of a Chevrolet Camaro and a Dodge were traveling northbound at high speeds on Ridgecrest Road when an Acura driven by Maddalyn D. entered the roadway from Elmwood Drive.

Authorities said both vehicles struck the Acura, causing the car to split in half. Maddalyn and her passenger, Isabell H., were killed in the collision. Both were senior students at Sultana High School.

CHP investigators believe the drivers of the Camaro and Dodge knew each other. The Dodge driver was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter. Authorities said the other driver fled the crash site and left his child behind.

Officials have not released the identity of the arrested driver or a description of the driver being sought.

The CHP continues to investigate the fatal crash and search for the driver who reportedly fled the scene.
