[07-22-2026] San Diego County, CA – Six-Vehicle Crash Causes Delays on Southbound I-5 Near La Costa Ave.webpA multi-vehicle crash caused traffic delays on southbound Interstate 5 near the Carlsbad and Encinitas border in San Diego County on Wednesday morning, July 22, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision was reported shortly after 7 a.m. on southbound I-5 just north of the La Costa Avenue exit.

Initial reports indicated a blue sedan rear-ended a white Honda Civic Sport, with both vehicles coming to rest in separate freeway lanes.

CHP later reported that the crash involved approximately six vehicles and blocked the HOV lane. Emergency crews temporarily blocked southbound lanes while vehicles were moved to the right shoulder and the scene was cleared.

A tow truck was requested to remove damaged vehicles. No information regarding injuries was immediately released.

The investigation remains ongoing.
