[07-23-2026] Fresno County, CA – Elderly Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Vehicle in Sanger

A 71-year-old man, identified as Bernard A., was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Academy Avenue in Sanger, Fresno County, early Thursday morning, July 23, 2026.

According to the Sanger Police Department, the incident occurred shortly before 5:30 a.m. on Academy Avenue near Fifth Street. 

Officers arrived and found the victim lying in the roadway with injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.

Emergency personnel attempted to provide medical aid, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators used the city’s public surveillance system and Flock license plate reader technology to identify the vehicle involved.

Police arrested 57-year-old Alvino C. of Sanger and booked him into jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run resulting in death.

The Sanger Police Department continues to investigate the crash and is asking anyone with information to contact authorities.
