[07-18-2026] San Diego County, CA – Passenger Seriously Injured in Crash in Chollas Creek

A female passenger was seriously injured in a crash in Chollas Creek in San Diego County on Saturday morning, July 18, 2026.

According to the San Diego Police Department, officers responded around 4:15 a.m. to the 5200 block of University Avenue after a 2002 Ford Explorer, allegedly speeding eastbound, lost control while attempting to turn onto 52nd Street and struck a traffic signal light pole.

Authorities reported that the 26-year-old female passenger was not wearing a seatbelt. Her head struck the vehicle windshield upon impact, resulting in serious head and neck injuries. She was transported to a hospital for treatment.

The 27-year-old male driver was evaluated and arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence.

The investigation remains ongoing.
