According to the Morongo Basin Station and California Highway Patrol, the incident was reported at around 10:48 p.m. near the intersection of Twentynine Palms Highway and Joshua Lane.

Deputies reported that the pedestrian walked into the eastbound lane before being struck by a vehicle.

Authorities said the 62-year-old driver stopped immediately and provided medical aid to the 54-year-old female pedestrian until San Bernardino County Fire Department emergency personnel arrived. Despite life-saving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators indicated that drugs or alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
