According to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the incident at around 6:45 p.m. on Woodside Road and Hacienda Drive.

Authorities said the rider was traveling along the shoulder of the roadway when the horse and rider were struck from behind by a vehicle. Both the horse and rider survived the crash. The rider was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The horse’s condition was not released.

Deputies collected witness statements and used automated license plate reader technology to identify the vehicle involved and its registered owners. No arrests have been announced, and the investigation remains ongoing.
