One person suffered major injuries, and several others were hospitalized following a chain-reaction crash on southbound Interstate 5 north of Stuhr Road in Stanislaus County on Sunday night, June 21, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 57-year-old driver, Nancy F. of Gustine, was traveling at a high rate of speed when she rear-ended a Chevrolet Equinox around 11:50 p.m.
After the initial collision, Nancy and her passenger, 43-year-old Felix R., exited the vehicle and walked into the center median.
The disabled Honda remained in the left lane and was struck by multiple oncoming vehicles, including a Toyota Camry and a Nissan SUV. The Nissan overturned after leaving the roadway, sending five occupants to the hospital with minor injuries.
At around 12:15 a.m., a Honda Pilot swerved to avoid the disabled vehicle and struck Felix in the center median, causing major injuries. He was transported to a hospital.
Nancy was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and booked into the Stanislaus County Jail.
The CHP continues to investigate the crash.
