[05-29-2026] Imperial County, CA – Driver Killed After Pickup Truck Collides with Tractor-Trailer in Salton City.webpOne driver was killed following a collision with a tractor-trailer on State Route 86 in Salton City, Imperial County, early Friday morning, May 29, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 3:30 a.m. near Treadwell Bend.

Authorities stated that a 61-year-old man was driving a 2016 Kenworth tractor-trailer northbound in the number-two lane while merging from Treadwell Bend. At the same time, a 2020 Toyota Tacoma, driven by an unidentified man, was traveling northbound in the same lane and collided with the rear of the semi-truck.

The impact caused the Toyota to burst into flames. The driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the Kenworth was uninjured.

The Imperial County Coroner’s Office responded and is withholding the identity of the deceased pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.

Authorities noted that the tractor-trailer driver was wearing a seatbelt. It has not yet been determined whether the Toyota driver was restrained or if the vehicle’s airbags deployed.

The investigation remains ongoing.
