A 17-year-old boy was killed, and several others were injured following a crash involving a truck on Interstate 80 in San Francisco early Saturday morning, May 30, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 1:30 a.m. on eastbound I-80 at the elevated Seventh Street off-ramp.
Authorities stated that a gray Chevrolet Camaro in the fast lane clipped the left front of the Recology truck, sending both vehicles into sand barrels at the top of the exit.
The truck stopped, but the Camaro went over the barrels, over the metal bridge railing, and fell approximately 25 feet into the San Francisco Police Department impound lot at 450 Seventh Street. The vehicle struck several unoccupied cars before landing on its roof atop another vehicle.
Firefighters extricated two passengers in the rear of the Camaro. One, age 18, was taken to a hospital with major injuries, while the other, a 17-year-old not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The teen who died was a member of the Class of 2026 at Hillsdale High School.
The driver of the Camaro, an 18-year-old, and a 17-year-old front seat passenger were transported to a hospital with moderate injuries.
CHP stated that alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors, though investigators are considering speed as a possible cause.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
