A 25-year-old man was killed following a high-speed crash involving a Nissan and a semi-truck on Highway 58 in Bakersfield on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 5:54 p.m. on eastbound Highway 58, east of Towerline Road.
CHP reported that a 25-year-old man, later identified as Travis P. of Bakersfield, was driving a 2025 Nissan Sentra in the westbound lanes at approximately 85 to 90 miles per hour.
The Nissan lost control, crossed the center median, and entered the eastbound lanes, colliding with a 2023 Kenworth semi-truck traveling at about 55 miles per hour.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene and pronounced the driver of the Nissan dead. The semi-truck driver was unharmed.
CHP reported that a 2019 Porsche Panamera traveling behind the Kenworth also sustained damage from airborne debris, though its driver was not injured.
Authorities have not determined whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
