A passenger sustained major injuries following a single-vehicle crash in Ventura County on Sunday evening, May 10, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol Ventura Area office, the crash was reported around 5:52 p.m. on westbound State Route 118 west of Mesa School Road.
Authorities reported that a black Jeep Cherokee driven by a 21-year-old man from Simi Valley drifted onto the dirt shoulder while navigating a curve in the roadway. The driver lost control of the vehicle, which then crashed into a dirt embankment and multiple trees.
Officials said the driver suffered minor injuries and was able to exit the vehicle before calling 911. A 19-year-old passenger from Simi Valley became trapped inside the Jeep and was later extricated by emergency responders.
The passenger was transported to Ventura County Medical Center with major injuries and was reported to be in critical condition.
Drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the incident. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
