Three people were killed, and another person was injured following a multi-vehicle crash in Monterey County on Saturday night, May 2, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 10:15 p.m. on State Highway 1 just north of Springfield Road.
Authorities reported that a GMC pickup truck, driven by 51-year-old David O., was traveling southbound when it entered the northbound lanes and sideswiped a Ford pickup truck before colliding head-on with a Honda sedan carrying three men.
All three occupants of the Honda were transported to a hospital, where they later died from their injuries. One occupant of the Ford pickup was also taken to a hospital with injuries that were not immediately disclosed.
Officials stated that the driver of the GMC showed signs of alcohol intoxication following the crash and was later booked into Monterey County Jail on multiple charges, including vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
