One person was killed, and five others were injured in a head-on collision in Indio on Sunday night, April 26, 2026.
According to authorities, the crash occurred just after 7:00 p.m. at the intersection of Avenue 44 and Arabia Street.
Police reported that a Toyota Corolla and a Honda Accord collided head-on. Inside the Honda, a 31-year-old driver, a 33-year-old woman, and an 8-year-old boy were injured. The woman and child were airlifted to a hospital, while the driver was transported by ambulance. All three were reported to be in stable condition.
The Toyota was carrying three occupants. One passenger was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene. Another man was located nearby with serious injuries and transported to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
The driver of the Toyota, a 27-year-old man, initially fled the scene but was later found nearby and taken into custody. Authorities stated he is suspected of driving under the influence and was transported to a hospital in critical but stable condition.
The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
