Five people were killed in a head-on collision on Highway 41 in Kings County on Sunday morning, April 12, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred before 10:30 a.m. near York Avenue, about 15 miles south of Avenal.
Authorities stated that a Chevy Silverado traveling southbound crossed into the northbound lane and collided head-on with a Toyota Prius. The impact caused the Silverado to flip onto its side and catch fire.
Four occupants inside the Chevy and one occupant inside the Toyota were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released the identities of the victims.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, including whether drugs or alcohol were factors.
