[03-19-2026] San Diego County, CA – Pedestrian Struck by Sanitation Truck in Mira Mesa.webpA 66-year-old woman sustained major injuries after she was struck by a sanitation truck in Mira Mesa, San Diego County, on Thursday morning, March 19, 2026.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the incident occurred around 11:16 a.m. when the woman was walking on the west sidewalk of 10600 Camino Ruiz.

The truck driver, who was exiting the Mira Mesa Shopping Center, drove onto the sidewalk and struck the pedestrian, knocking her to the ground and running over her torso.

The woman was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where it was determined that she had suffered a lacerated liver, a fractured spine, multiple rib fractures, and an avulsion to her right triceps.

DUI was not believed to be a factor in the incident. The investigation is being handled by the SDPD Traffic Division.
