A child was killed, and the mother was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Broadway in North Santa Maria on Friday afternoon, March 13, 2026.
According to the Santa Maria Police Department, the officers responded just before 3:00 p.m. at the intersection of North Broadway and Fesler Street.
Authorities stated that the 30-year-old woman, pushing a 1-year-old child in a stroller, attempted to cross Broadway when an 18-year-old driver, traveling eastbound on Fesler Street, made a right turn onto Broadway and struck the pedestrians.
Both the mother and child were taken to Marian Regional Medical Center with major injuries. Tragically, the child was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The mother’s injuries were also major, though the full extent was not immediately known.
The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Police confirmed that drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.
The Santa Maria Police Department’s Traffic Bureau is continuing to investigate the incident.
What A Lawyer Can Do For You
Many victims put off calling a lawyer even if they sustain injuries after an accident. However, lawyers can help you in many ways. They can provide you with police reports, CCTV footage, and witness statements to strengthen your case. Your attorney will also negotiate with insurance companies to get you fair compensation. The best part is that they will do all of these things for you at no upfront cost. So if you’re injured in an accident, hire a personal injury attorney to recover medical bills, car repair costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
