A woman was arrested after a violent crash that left her vehicle split in half on Interstate 280 in San Jose on Saturday evening, February 28, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded around 8:00 p.m. to reports of a crash involving a 2012 Ford Fusion, which had collided with a tree south of Winchester.
The driver, a woman believed to be from San Jose, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving while intoxicated due to alcohol. Her name has not been released.
CHP investigators are still looking into the crash, but do not have an estimate for the vehicle’s speed at the time of impact. Investigators are considering both driving while intoxicated and speed as potential factors.
The passenger sustained severe injuries and was transported to a hospital for medical care. However, authorities report that the passenger’s injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.
The incident remains under investigation.
