A deadly crash closed several lanes of southbound Interstate 5 near the San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant in San Diego County on Wednesday evening, February 25, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the inside three lanes of the highway were closed around 6:53 p.m. due to the crash, while the slow lane remained open.
Delays were expected as a result. CHP did not immediately provide details about the crash, but logs indicated that a pedestrian may have been involved.
A northbound driver said that they saw a man run across the northbound lanes and onto the southbound side of the freeway.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
