[02-14-2026] El Dorado County, CA – Six Hospitalized After Head-On Collision on Pioneer Trail in South Lake Tahoe.webpSix people were hospitalized after a head-on collision between a GMC Sierra and a Lexus SUV on Pioneer Trail in South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, February 14, 2026.

According to the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD), officers responded to the scene at 8:32 a.m. near the intersection of Woodbine Road. 

The driver of the GMC Sierra, heading eastbound, fell asleep at the wheel and drifted into the westbound lanes, colliding with the Lexus SUV.

The GMC driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle and sustained minor cuts and abrasions, while five passengers from the Lexus, which had eight people inside, were also transported with non-life-threatening injuries.

South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue and JPA ambulances responded to the scene.

SLTPD Sgt. Traci Trapini confirmed that neither drugs nor alcohol were factors in the crash, and no criminal charges were filed. The speed limit in the area is 35 mph, and there were no signs of speeding.

The investigation is ongoing.
