[02-09-2026] Imperial County, CA – One Killed, Another Injured in Off-Road Vehicle Crash at Imperial Sand Dunes.webpOne person was killed, and another was injured in an off-road vehicle crash at the Imperial Sand Dunes in Imperial County, on Monday morning, February 9, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred before 11:00 a.m., south of Interstate 8 and south of Grays Well Road. 

Two men were riding in a 2017 Polaris RZR Turbo Pro Star when the vehicle went over a sand hill. The front of the vehicle struck the bottom of the bowl, causing the vehicle to overturn onto its roof.

The driver, a 49-year-old man from Ephrata, Washington, was able to exit the vehicle on his own. However, the passenger, an 81-year-old man from Casa Grande, Arizona, had to be removed from the overturned vehicle. Despite efforts from U.S. Border Patrol agents and the Imperial County Fire Department to save him, the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

CHP officials stated that the driver sustained lacerations to the head. Both men were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
