[01-17-2026] One Killed in Tow Truck Crash on 5 Freeway Near Camp Pendleton.webpAt least one person was killed after a flatbed tow truck collided with a sedan on the northbound San Diego (5) Freeway near the Camp Pendleton Marine Base in San Diego County on Saturday afternoon, January 17, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported at approximately 2:36 p.m. at the Aliso Creek Rest Area. 

CHP said the vehicles came to rest near the center divider. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office was called to respond.

Authorities did not indicate that anyone was transported to a hospital following the collision.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
