A man died after his pickup truck crashed into the back of a stopped box truck in the Cajon Pass, San Bernardino County, on Tuesday afternoon, December 9, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported around 2:32 p.m. on the northbound Interstate 15 near Kenwood Avenue.
Witnesses said the driver of a black 2019 Dodge Ram Big Horn was traveling northbound when he collided with the rear of a white box truck that was completely stopped in the lane ahead for reasons still under investigation.
The Dodge Ram driver, the sole occupant, appeared unable to stop in time. A Greyhound bus traveling behind the vehicles narrowly avoided involvement and stopped at the scene.
The incident was initially reported as an unknown injury crash, but CHP later confirmed the collision was fatal. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department was requested for a coroner response, and logs indicated the coroner received notification from the hospital at 5:02 p.m.
All lanes were cleared and reopened by 4:07 p.m., though traffic remained congested for several miles.
The identity of the deceased has not been released. The investigation is ongoing.
