[09-02-2025] Passenger Killed After Solo-Vehicle Crash on Northbound Highway 99 Near David Road in BakersfieldA 63-year-old woman was killed after being ejected from a Honda Accord in a solo-vehicle crash in Bakersfield early Tuesday morning, September 2, 2025.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 3:10 a.m. on northbound Highway 99 near David Road.

CHP units responded to a report of a pedestrian on the shoulder waving to passing motorists, but upon arrival, the incident was determined to be a single-vehicle collision.

Investigators said a 64-year-old man was driving the 2000 Honda Accord northbound in the number two lane at approximately 70 miles per hour when he is believed to have fallen asleep. The vehicle veered onto the east shoulder, struck a dirt berm, rolled over, and came to rest in a dirt field. 

The unrestrained passenger was ejected and landed in the dirt field, where she was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Kern Medical.

CHP confirmed that alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash. Authorities continue to investigate the collision.
