A man was killed following a two-vehicle crash involving a big rig on Interstate 5 near Coalinga on Monday evening, July 7, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 5:00 p.m. on southbound I-5, north of Highway 198.
A man driving a 2008 Honda Civic was reportedly heading northbound on I-5 when, for unknown reasons, he veered toward the center median and lost control. The car began to spin counterclockwise and entered the path of a 2019 Freightliner Cascadia truck traveling southbound.
The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin. The 24-year-old driver of the Freightliner, from Manteca, was not injured.
Authorities said the crash remains under investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the incident.
