A crash involving a pickup truck and a semi-truck sparked three small fires and caused significant traffic delays on Highway 101 in San Luis Obispo County on Thursday afternoon, May 15, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 2:45 p.m. on northbound Highway 101 near the Madonna Road off-ramp.
A white pickup truck reportedly rear-ended a semi-truck, causing several hundred feet of embankment beside the highway to catch fire.
The flames spread along a creek and had nearly reached the Los Osos Valley Road off-ramp by 2:57 p.m. The San Luis Obispo City Fire Department responded and temporarily closed the No. 2 lane of northbound Highway 101 to contain the fires.
