[04-17-2025] Driver Killed After Tire From Another Vehicle Crashes Into Windshield on I-680 Near AlamoA man was killed when a tire from another vehicle struck his windshield while driving on Interstate Highway 680 near Alamo, Contra Costa County, on Thursday afternoon, April 17, 2025.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at around 1:35 p.m. when the left rear tire of a blue Ford van traveling northbound on I-680 near Stone Valley Road came loose. The tire bounced over the center divide and crashed into the windshield of a southbound Toyota Tundra pickup.

The male driver of the pickup, who was the sole occupant, was fatally injured. His identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The driver and passenger of the Ford van were not injured. Authorities have not yet determined why the tire detached from the van.

The CHP is investigating the incident.
