A 63-year-old woman from Cottonwood and her female passenger were killed in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 near Red Bluff on Sunday afternoon, February 2, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 4:15 p.m., just north of the Red Bluff Rest Area.
The woman was driving a 2007 Ford Escape northbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle veered off the roadway onto the east shoulder of I-5.
The Ford rolled several times, ejecting both occupants. Both sustained fatal injuries at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, which happened under cloudy and rainy conditions.
The investigation is ongoing, and the identities of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
